Serving on a square-rigged sloop such as the Providence
is a great opportunity to enter the realm of a bygone
era of iron men and wooden ships. A tall ship is a
unique learning tool, larger than life and certainly
as complex! A sail aboard the Providence provides
21st-century children with a bridge to America's history.
Events that took place right here on Narragansett
Bay shaped our city, our country, and our culture.
To keep the Providence vibrant, alive, and floating,
we rely on support from many sources. A key source
is the commitment of volunteers. Whether they be sailors,
teachers, office support, or moral support, the volunteers
connect the Providence with Providence.
During the spring and fall, we sail and work out
of India Point Park near downtown Providence. Volunteers
are needed to help with the ongoing maintenance of
the boat, with the actual sailing of the boat, and
with other projects both on site and in the office.
